Scarce original historical tract on the 1562 landing of the French near St. Augustine. The landing bested the Spanish and the English and marks the first landing of Protestants in North America. Written by Emma Rochelle Williams, this tract aimed at saving the marker identifying the spot of this landing. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED ON THE FRONT COVER BY WILLIAMS TO MR. WILLIAM BEER. Beer was a fellow historian as well as a noted literary figure in New Orleans at the time of publication. Sunning and fold marks. Original stapled binding a bit rusty. OCLC locates only 12 copies.

William Beer was a well-known librarian of his time who headed the free public library of Topeka, Kansas; the Howard Memorial Library of New Orleans; the New Orleans Free Public Library. He was an intimate friend of George W. Cable, Ruth McEnery Stuart, and Grace King. It is said that his work and life in New Orleans represented the literary birth of the city. Beer was the author of over eighty articles in books, encyclopedias, library and historical journals, including Louisiana Historical Quarterly, Library Journal, Architectural Art and Its Allies, Mississippi Historical Society Publications and American Historical Review.
