The June 5, 1923 issue of "The Teacher's Handbook - A Guide for Use in the Schools of the City of New York" in original wraps. This guide originally adpted on September 20, 1921 and printed in 1922 and 1923 (the present volume). Includes rules governing teacher attendance, dress, attitude, etc... The guide also provides the rules governing classrooms in the city. Interesting that teachers in the guide are always referred to a "HE" or "HIM" although there is a mention made for maternity leave (unpaid for two years with approval). Female teachers are also REQUIRED to inform administration when they marry and to whom. No requirement for males. Each school day beginning "must take place at the time fixed by the Board of Education with the reading of a portion of the Holy Scriptures without note or comment."
