Scarce 1911 "Our Opportunity in Brazil" [NAMESAKE OF LAMBUTH UNIVERSITY]
Louisville, KY: Board of Church Extension of the Methodist Church, South, 1911. First Edition. Item #8374
"South America has been the neglected continent." - Walter Russell Lambuth
Having split off from the Methodist Church in 1845 over the issue of slavery, the Methodist Church, South functioned as its own organization until 1939. Both sides of the Methodist aisle maintained active missionary activities in South America, with the "South" focusing on the "cannibals" and "head-hunters" of Venezuela. The spread of the Methodist faith in Brazil took off and now functions as its own entity.
