The ABC's of Eating for Health (WWII Food Rationing Guide); "It's up to the women..."
Mansfield, OH: Westinghouse Electric & Mfg, 1943. First Thus. Original wraps. 6 X 9 Inches. 16 PP. Very Good +. Item #7748
"It's up to the women - To be sure, it won't be so easy to feed your families the kind of meals they need to keep them strong, healthy and "on their toes". But if can be done, if each and every woman at home will put her mind and heart into it..." (pg 3)
Scarce original WWII guide to nutrition that doubles as a patriotic piece reminding everyone that rationing is necessary and we are all in this fight together. My personal favorite quips are that fish is a great alternative for "meat" and we must make sure we get enough riboflavin in our diet. A timely piece that advises the use of the "Victory Garden" and reminds us to be cheerful and willing when it comes to the types of food we are rationed. These concepts seem foreign to me, a child of the 1970's and I can't even imagine what a spoiled modern society like the one we live in today would make of this sort of hardship...
