Early 1801 stated "New Edition" of this work by Hester Chapone. Originally written as basic social guideline for her niece. Mary Wollstonecraft singled this book out as one of the few examples of the self-improvement genre that deserved praise. Wonderful early bookseller label from "Lindsell Bookseller & Stationer" (Wimpole Street) affixed to inside front board. Some light toning and foxing. Period previous owner name to FFEP. Early repair to hinges. A very nice copy of this guide for ladies that could easily be seen in an episode of Bridgerton!
