Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (Original Annotated Galley Proof from Author's Personal Collection)
New York: Ballantine Books, 1984. First Generation Copy (Photomechanical Copy). Original wraps. 8 5/8 X 14 Inches. Very Good. Item #7702
Photomechanically produced copy from the author's personal collection. SIGNED AND DESCRIBED BY AUTHOR IN HIS HAND ON PAGE ONE AND PAGE TEN.
Standard long galley copy with lengthy note on page ten in the author's hand. Original photomechanical copy used by the author. "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom galleys" written in blue ink by Kahn at top of first page. Kahn has added a lengthy description to page 10:
"This chapter was not in the script. I asked Spielberg if I could write a chapter about a day int he life of Short Round, to get a little more depth and backstory to him. He thought that was a great idea. I titled it "A Boy's Life" as a kind of Easter Egg. That was the working title of ET: The Extra-Terrestrial, during filming. And I always thought he was referring to himself in calling it that - That he was completely identified with Elliott, that growing up in the suburbs he was that kid waiting for ET to come down to Earth, A Boy's Life was both Elliott's and Spielberg's inner life."
Signed in blue ink by Kahn on the first page just under the title of chapter one.
Advance copies, proof copies, galley copies... These are nearly impossible gems in the world of Lucas, Spielberg, Indy and Han. This scarce galley copy from the author's personal collection appears to be the first one to ever hit the market. No comparables or even similar items located on any of our database sites. No copies come to mind and I've been collecting Indy personally since nearly the mid-80's. Interesting first-hand account of author's involvement in the production of ET, a novelization initially completed by Kahn that was later issued with William Kotzwinkle as the author. In addition to this Indiana Jones adventure, Kahn and Spielberg worked together on the novelizatons for Poltergeist, Poltergeist II and The Goonies.
A unique behind the scenes glimpse into the creation and publication history of the novelization. This photomechanically produced galley contains the numerous edits and original "Ballantine Galley Proofs" note by Kahn in print. Moderate wear and some minor loss to edges. Staining to bottom edge of first few pages. Missing page 93 of galley, which appears to coincide to pages 196 and 197 of the completed book.
Price: $5,000.00
