"Start a Mail Order Business at Home" [Rear Cover]

While we have not found much on publisher and entrepreneur C.E. Curtiss, we know based upon sales and appearance of booklets from the Mail Order Press (Corfu, NY) online and at OCLC that this is somebody who needs more research! While Montgomery Ward and Sears were issuing mail order catalogs of their own products, Curtiss seems to be a very early adopter of the potential of small home-based businesses utilizing the mail order process. Curtiss was directly advertising to Americans to create their own product for sale via the mail. He created at least two versions of this "500 Successful Money-Making Formulas" booklet providing the product ideas for home entrepreneurs.

Includes hundreds of ideas including his "Big Four"
1) Chinese Starch Enamel
2) King Tobacco Cure
3) Lightning Silver Polish
4) The Original Indian Salve

Curtiss' business seems to in supplying those new "creators" with mail order and shipping supplies. We locate three copies similar to this text at OCLC and at least one booklet on "Magic Made Easy" published by his Mail Order Press. At the very least, this C.E. Curtiss had the foresight to recognize the industry that has become one of the nation's largest - catalog, internet and direct mail order. At the very least, this C.E. Curtiss was one of, if not the first to recognize the power and financial gain from providing the umbrella for a community of creators... (well, well, well ETSY...) - We have now absolutely spent too much time with this listing, but the more we research, the more interesting it becomes...

Light scuffing and wear to edges and spine. Remnant of a removed sticker on rear cover. Several dog-eared pages at rear. Pages a bit brittle due to the use of inferior paper at time of production. WE FIND ONLY TWO COPIES ON OCLC.

Price: $500.00
