Pre-Publication copy signed by 44 of Oates' employees at Equitable Life Insurance, including at least two (J. Henry Smith and Coy Eklund) who would later become President of the company themselves. Signed, "To James F. Oates Jr. / with the gratitude and / esteem of his Equitable / colleagues. / December 1, 1969" on the FFEP verso. Finely bound in leather and ruled in gilt on front and back cover. Oates, a WWI era veteran, graduated from Northwestern University Law School but spent most of his career in business. He was CEO of Chicago's Peoples Light, Gas and Coke Company. Oates pioneered the insurance industry's participation in urban renewal and served as the President of the Chicago Bar Association in the 60's. In addition, he rose to President of the Chicago Commercial Club and the YMCA. Oates later served on the President's Committee on Youth employment and the Business Men's Committee for Tax Reduction under President John F. Kennedy.
An excellent copy with a tremendous provenance waiting for the next aspiring leader to claim it and carry it on.
