De re metallica libri XII was published in 1556, one year after Agricola's death. This 12-volume work is a comprehensive and systematic study, classification and methodical guide on all available factual and practical aspects, of concern for mining, the mining sciences and metallurgy. Unrivalled in its complexity and accuracy, it served as the standard reference work on the subject for two centuries.

Facsimile reprint of the 1928 edition, containing German translations of "De re metallica" (Basel 1556) and "De animantibus subterraneis" (Basel 1549), with illustr. from the 1556 edition. ORIGINAL ORNATE VELLUM BINDING. An extremely clean copy of this classic of early scientific study in metallurgy.
