FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF MORRIS COOPER FOOTE, REPRESENTATIVE OF THE U.S. ARMY SENT TO TIENTSIN, CHINA IN 1900 (Boxer Rebellion). FOOTE WAS SENT BY THE US ARMY TO CHINA IN JULY, 1900 TO ENSURE CONTINUED TRADE ACCESS BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND CHINA.
Foote, an experienced Officer and veteran of the Civil War, Indian Wars (Black Hills) and the Spanish-American War served his last overseas Command in Tientsin during the Boxer Rebellion. By October 1900 Foote was given command of United States forces in Tientsin. He represented the United States in the Tientsin Provisional Government, known as the “Conseil du Governement Provisiors de Tientsin.”
