New York: The William Caslon Company, 1936. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. 5 1/4 X 7 3/4 Inches. 256 PP. Very Good / Very Good. Item #4008

Original black cloth with red title stamping to front cover and spine. Signed and inscribed "To Ernest and Laura / George F. Eliot / 9/22/36" directly on the FFEP. Very early inscription as the New York Times has this book being published and released in November of 1936. Basis for the 1937 film of the same name. The film starred Milburn Stone, Zeffie Tilbury, Terry Walker, William Harrigan, Helen MacKellar and Selmer Jackson. Author's first mystery novel. First book featuring G-Man Dan Fowler, who would go on to be featured in G-Men Detective Magazine. A hint of rubbing to edges. DJ worn at edges and folds, with a few shallow chips and scuffs. Minor tape ghosts to crown and foot of DJ spine. A very handsome copy overall.
