Reminiscences of the Old Navy from the Journals and Private Papers of Captain Edward Trenchard, and Rear-Admiral Stephen Decatur Trenchard

New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1898. First Edition, First Printing. Cloth. 6 1/8 X 8 3/4 Inches. 362 PP. Very Good. Item #3661

Stephen D. Trenchard commanded the USS Rhode Island during the first part of the Civil War. As such, his letters detail everything from picking up slaves and leaving them to their "horrible bondage" after deciding they could not be carried any further to the rescue of the soldiers on the USS Monitor. A very interesting book that provides a private look at the workings of the US Navy in the 19th Century.

Original cloth with gilt title and "anchor" to front cover. Pages uncut. One of only 750 copies produced. A hint of scuffing and rubbing to covers and endpapers. A sharp copy overall.

Price: $50.00
