The Linen Bands (W/ SIGNED KATHERINE ANNE PORTER LETTER)
Westminster, MD: Newman Press, 1961. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. 5 3/4 X 8 3/4 Inches. 63 PP. Very Good / Very Good. Item #3578
First printing copy of author's first book. Accompanied by the original letter from Katherine Anne Porter to Fanny Neel Cheney, the wife of author Brainerd Cheney. In part, "...Let nothing disturb thee; Nothing affright thee; All thinks are passing; God never Changeth - Santa Teresa of Avila. And he never stops sending good poets - few and far between, but look! here is another! With my love - Katherine Anne - 3 July 1961." Porter and Cheney were noted friends in a loose circle of Catholic Apologists that included Flannery O'Connor and Allen Tate among others. Roseliep, Priest and Poet, was widely noted for his haiku work. Interestingly, the rear jacket flap photograph of Roseliep shows him holding a copy of "Pale Horse, Pale Rider" by Katherine Anne Porter!
A very scarce and important book for the collector of 20th Century poetry. Extremely scarce in commerce. OCLC locates only "1" copy. Hint of foxing to endpapers. DJ a bit scuffed and worn at edges. A very respectable copy overall.
