Lot of 8 original 1989 Universal Studios 35mm press slides. These eight slides feature major aspects of the theme park that opened in 1990. The slides include: The Universal Studios Florida Logo, an aerial view of the park, a behind the scenes filming shot, the Psycho House aw well as artistic renditions of King Kong Kongfrontation, Jaws, Hanna-Barbera and Ghostbusters. THERE WAS AN ORIGINAL PRESS KIT ISSUED IN 1989, BUT IN ALL THE YEARS OF COLLECTING THEME PARK MATERIAL WE HAVE NEVER SEEN THESE SLIDES AS PART OF ANY KIT. They were recently purchased by Back in Time from a collection that originated with an ex-employee. Slides are all in color and are marked "Copyright 1989 Universal City Florida Partners - All Rights Reserved." NF condition.

The idea for a Universal Studios Florida goes back to at least 1982. The construction on the park began in 1986 and was originally slated to be complete by late 1989. The opening date was set for December, 1989, but that date was delayed twice until the park finally opened in June of 1990. Plagued by Disney's obvious "gamesmanship" via their opening of Hollywood Studios and ride malfuncitons, the park got off to a less than stellar beginning. Many of the early visitors were given passes to return later when rides actually functioned. This was the first time that Universal had built a theme park from the ground up! Steven Spielberg, an co-founder of the park, was instrumental during the construction and still remains a marked presence in the park. Disney has Walt and Universal has Spielberg!
