Largely unresearched archive of over 200 letters and war news updates sent by a father to his sons during WWII. Collection saved by Naval Aviation Cadet Martin Brennan of Chicago, IL. Contains a few letters from his mother, but the majority from their father, E.V. Brennan, a telegraph operator in Chicago. All letters addressed to Aviation Cadet Martin Brennan, but several cover envelopes contain copies of letters sent to his brother "Red" as to keep him in the loop on family and war related activities.

E.V. fancied himself a writer and authored a self-published war newsletter that was available by subscription. He tutored radio school and telegraph operation at the University of Chicago and the newsletters were apparently used by his students (his "boys") for telegraph practice. Several of his typed and/or mimeographed "News of the Week" newsletters included as he sent them to his boys who were off to war. E.V. did manage to spread the word of his newsletters and apparently had subscribers in a few states and at least one was picked up by Railroad Magazine. The summary of war news he provides in his letters and his newsletters cover both Asian and European theaters of the war. His letters to his sons nearly all contain detailed war news and updates on the major players including Hitler, Hirohito, Mussolini and General MacArthur.

Archive inludes letters, newspaper cuts, mimeographed newsletters and most of the original covers. A few samples have been displayed in a three-ring binder. Most certainly worthy of more research and quite possibly the basis for something much larger. A RARE PERSONAL ARCHIVE.
