First thus edition - the first printing of the "Author's Edition" with added text up to February, 1873. Original brown cloth with gilt title stamping to spine. Front and rear cover embossed in blind. Tissue-guard intact. Preface bears the original 1869 date. Contains the full-page publishing history and details of this "cheaper edition" by Barnum (dated February, 1873). Slight foxing and toning which is very typical of this title. A bit of wear to edges and corners. Binding is clean and tight. Discreet and attractive vintage previous owner stamp to second page. A very appealing copy of Barnum's classic autobiography.
