Scarce original Bennington, Vermont First American Edition. Contains all FIVE original copperplate engravings. Original period leather with following engravings: "Americans throwing the Cargoes of the Tea Ships into the River at Boston", "Battle of Bunkers Hill" (trimmed), "Death of Genl Montgomery", "Destruction of the Randolph Frigate" and "Defeat of DeGrasse". Missing the frontis and pages 1-24. Contains the title-page, Preface and complete Contents section as well as pages 25-184. Howes C761. This scarce VT edition not listed in Sabin (listing there begins at the 1795 edition in America). PO name in pencil on front pastedown. PO inscription in ink on rear endpage. Foxing and toning throughout. Binding a bit loose as you might expect. A few pages exhibit closed tears, but overall a very sound copy despite the damage and the missing pages.
