Washington was one of the foremost leaders of the African-American community in the late 19th and early 20th Century. He founded the Tuskegee Institute in 1881. PO name in pencil on front pastedown. Minor paper loss to corner of front pastedown. Light wear and scuffing to boards. A bit of rubbing and wear to crown and foot of spine and a few faint spots. A much more appealing copy than it sounds.
