Boston: Houghton, Mifflin Company, 1942. 8 1/2 X 11 3/4 Inches. 32 PP. Near Fine / Very Good. Item #3527
"One of the little monkeys was called Curious George."
Early printing copy of the book that introduced Curious George to the world. Signed and inscribed by H.A. Rey with an original drawing of Cecily directly on the title-page. Signed "To Lillian L. Bechtold, H.A. Rey - Scampscott, 10-1-53." Lillian Bechtold was the Children's librarian at Curtis Memorial Library in Meriden, CT for over 50 years. Original publication date of 1942 on the copyright page, but not on the title-page as with the first printing. We do know this is a very early printing as the actual printing is not noted and the DJ bears the price of $2.50. A very difficult book to find signed by the author in any condition and/or printing. Original red cloth boards sharp, clean and extremely bright. No PO writing, plates etc... DJ has a two inch closed tear to front cover and light wear to edges and folds. A very attractive copy overall. 8 1/2 X 11 3/4 Inches. 32 PP. .
