Springfield, OH: The Crowell-Collier Publication Co., 1950. First Edition. Original wraps. Very Good +. Item #3523
Scarce original February 11, 1950 issue of Collier's that contains Vonnegut's first published story, "Report on the Barnhouse Effect." Published while Vonnegut was still working at General Electric, this short story earned Vonnegut $750 and a lifelong friendship with Knox Burger, Collier's Fiction Editor. This short story was later reprinted in "Welcome to the Monkey House" (my personal favorite collection of his stories). 10 1/2 X 13 5/8 Inches. 74 PP. Original staple binding clean, but starting to pull at lower edge. Original mailing label to front cover. Light wear to edges. VG.
An increasingly difficult magazine to locate. While some authors rise and fall likes the tides, Kurt Vonnegut seems to be riding the crest of an ever-increasing tide of interest in his life and publications. .
