London: Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, 1963. Early Edition. Hardcover. 6 1/8 X 9 1/4 Inches. 416 PP. Very Good / Very Good. Item #3428
Early printing (fourth) in the original DJ. Price intact. An early and important book on the emerging field of computer science. The book brought together 24 well-known authorities including Alan Turing, famous for his code-breaking work during WWII as well as practically developing the field of theoretical computer science. Turing is quoted several times and his contributions appear to be heavily involved in the entire section on the development of computer chess. A very rare and important book, that is quite scarce in any of the early printings. Spotting to rear board. DJ exhibits a few shallow closed tears and is a bit scuffed. Overall, a very attractive copy.
