New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1975. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. 6 1/8 X 9 1/8 Inches. 314 PP. Good / Very Good. Item #3414
Original blue boards with first state DJ. Correct price of $7.95 intact on front flap. Signed by Cussler on the half title-page. The first hardcover novel to feature Dirk Pitt (who was previously introduced in The Mediterranean Caper which was only issued in paperback). An important book for Cussler fans like me. Original blue boards a bit rubbed at hinges and edges. Light toning and foxing endpapers and gutters. Original DJ clean and bright, although a bit worn at edges. Light scuffing to DJ folds and a few creases. One small 1/2 inch closed tear at bottom edge of rear cover has a tape repair. Overall, the book sounds way worse than it appears. A nice copy of this rarity.
