Rare military order from Commander in Chief, President George Washington, instructing the United States to assemble a detachment of 80,000 Men to be armed, equipped and prepared "to march at a minutes warning..." This order, from Massachusetts lays out how they will assemble their portion of 11,885 men, pulling them from the rolls of the exisiting militia in the state. Signed in type at the close by William Donnison, Adjutant-General. Creased and wrinkled, edges worn, some deterioration at folds affecting a few letters.
