Original Album, 1928. First Edition (Original). Leather bound. Very Good. Item #2685
Stunning original 1928 photograph album compiled by United States Navy veteran Ray Williams. Ray served on the USS Maryland from at least 1928 to 1930, as the photographs detail such.
The album measures roughly 11 X 8 Inches and contains no less than 330 original photographs and photo postcards. The photograph album, a common scrapbook for soldiers of the day is bound in leather and is hand decorated and illustrated. Original tie-binding intact. The first page features autographs and ass't notes by President Herbert Hoover and fourteen others. Hoover has written "Herbert Hoover - Stanford Univ. - President of US" in the first slot of the autograph page.
The photographs contained in the album are mostly clean, with several locations and dates noted in hand. There are at least FOUR photographs of President Hoover. Other Cabinet Members were onboard, but distinguishing them is quite difficult. The album starts in Maryland in 1927 and proceeds as follows:
Hawaii, Pearl Harbor, Honolulu
Eiseden Field (?)
Many of the photographs contained in this album are from the Hoover eight week "Goodwill Tour" of Latin America. The album sheds light on ship life, soldier activities and the shows presented for the enjoyment of both President Hoover and the crew of the USS Maryland.
