Deland,FL: Original Document, 1885. Original Document. Single Sheet. 8 X 13 Inches. 4 PP. Very Good. Item #2654

Extremely rare October 20, 1885 land purchase agreement between Henry A. DeLand and J. Willis Westlake. Deland, a wealthy baking soda producer from New York, founded the town of DeLand after visiting his sister in 1876. Deland bought large chunks of land in Volusia County in the late 1870's and early 1880's. This sale of roughly ten acres to J.Willis Westlake is quite interesting as Westlake is noted as one of the original incorporators of Lake Helen, FL (also in Volusia County). The document reads:

"Between Henry A. DeLand of the County of Monroe and State of New York, and Joseph Y. Parce of the County of Volusia and State of Florida, as special guardian for Sarah E. DeLand, an insane married woman, wife of said Henry A. DeLand, parties of the first part, and J. Willis Westlak of Millersville Lancaster County Penna. of the second part..."

Boldy signed by Henry DeLand and Parce (as guardian of DeLand's wife). Document is worn a bit at edges and the top fold is starting. Fold-marks.

Price: $2,500.00
