Beautiful original cabinet card photograph of Mary J. Lincoln, pioneer cook book author and First Principal of the Boston Cooking School. In 1884, Lincoln published "Mrs. Lincoln's Boston Cook Book: What to Do and What Not to Do in Cooking" primarily as a textbook for students attending the school. The book was one of the first in America to provide nutritional information about the ingredients and food that was to be prepared. She later wrote "The Peerless Cook Book" and "Boston School Kitchen Textbook: Lessons in Cooking for the Use of Classes in Public and Industrial Schools."

Sepia photograph signed "With the compliments of Mary J. Lincoln" on back. A note stating, "Author of the Boston Cook Book. Head of Boston Cooking School" also on back of photograph.
