Turbeville, SC: Western Auto, 1964. First Edition, First Printing. Original wraps. 8 X 10 3/4 Inches. 320 PP. Near Fine. Item #1149
Amazing, complete 1964 first issue of the Western Auto Home Town catalog service books. The idea, quite revolutionary in 1964, was to issue a catalog and send to representative stores and/or dealers throughout America. While mail-order was nothing new, the idea of providing FREE shipping of targeted merchandise direct to the store and/or dealer was. The buyer paid no shipping and handling and the company was able to work in a revolutionary "Just in Time" inventory environment. Aside from the historical business perspective, the catalog is filled with classic 1960's merchandise. A great reference. Contents include: Timex, camping equipment, rifles, hunting equipment, fishing tackle and lures, baseball equipment (including the Al Kaline, Bobby Shantz and Richie Ashburn gloves), Western Flyer bicycles and much more.
