Los Angeles: 20th Century Fox, 1977. First Edition. The Story of Star Wars - Original Cast with Narration by Roscoe Lee Browne. Music Composed by John Williams. Performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Near Fine. Item #108
ORIGINAL 8-TRACK WITH SLEEVE AND RARE "Free Story of Star Wars 16 - Page full-color book" mailing card. A rare merchandising effort that actually made it out in the year of release, 1977. Star wars was only released in 32 theaters in its opening week in 1977. This was because only 32 theaters were willing to give it a try! By years end, it would be in over 800 theaters and would be smashing records. Lucas, in a stroke of brilliance, had retained all of the rights to the soundtrack and had put his own team together (including Charlie Lippincott) to go out and secure merchandising deals like the one that probably yielded this 8-Track. Lippincott is most known for getting Stan Lee of Marvel Comics and Del Rey publishing onboard prior to the release of the film. Even the toys were not available until early 1978 for the most part and parents were left with certificates to put under the tree that promised toys in the near future. ALL SUMMED UP, A RARE MERCHANDISING ITEM THAT ACTUALLY MADE IT TO PRODUCTION AND RELEASE IN 1977!
