New York: Scholastic Press, 1998. Advance Reading Copy. Original wraps. 6 X 9 Inches. 309 PP. Very Good. Item #1051
Original advance copy of the book that introduced Harry Potter to America! Stated "First American Edition - October, 1998" with the full and complete numberline to the "1" on the copyright page. Contains the original note from publisher issued as the first page in the book. Rear cover states "Uncorrected Proof - Not for Sale" and gives the printing details of the entire first print run in America. It is a sign of the times that alongside the publishing details such as 30,000 copies to be printed there is a statement that one of the big promotions for Harry Potter is the presence online at Scholastic.com. Cutting edge promotion for 1998 I suppose.
In original publisher glossy wraps with cover illustration by Mary Grandpre. Spine remains unbroken, but there is evidence of a light reading or two. A bit of wear at edges and corners. The block exhbits of a bit of "waviness" from some slight moisture exposure I would suppose. Overall, a nice copy that is free from any former writing etc... The book that started it all.
